President & CEO
Directing VED's growth from regional contractor to Virginia's most trusted site developer over 25+ years.

Founded in 1975, Virginia Equipment Development has spent fifty years self-performing the heaviest, most logistically complex sitework in the Commonwealth. We own the equipment, employ the operators, and answer for every cubic yard.
One crew, one fleet, one standard — every yard of dirt moved on a VED site is moved by VED hands.
Headquartered in Richmond and operating across the Mid-Atlantic, VED is a single-source civil contractor for mass earthwork, site utilities, and heavy infrastructure. Our clients are owners, developers, federal program managers, and the largest GCs in the region — they rely on us for the work no one else will self-perform.
Every VED project is staffed by VED people. We do not subcontract scope to lowest-cost bidders. We do not chase work outside our wheelhouse. The result is a portfolio of complex sites delivered on schedule, on budget, and with the same crew you met at preconstruction.
Earthwork, utilities, paving, and structures executed by VED operators on VED equipment. One source of accountability from grading to punch list.
Owned fleet, in-house shop. Over 200 pieces of heavy equipment maintained by our own mechanics. Schedules don’t slip waiting on a rental yard.
VDOT prequalified to the highest tier. Trusted by Fortune 500 industrial clients, healthcare systems, and federal program managers.
Single-project bonding to nine figures, with the balance sheet to match. Built for the work that’s too big or too critical to subcontract.
From a single grading rig in Richmond to a self-performing civil contractor working across the Mid-Atlantic — the moments that built VED.
Years Self-Performing
Eras of Growth

Owner-Operated Crew
VED begins as a small grading and clearing operation serving local homebuilders and the early waves of suburban development west of the city.
After a decade of private work, VED prequalifies with the Virginia Department of Transportation and begins self-performing public roadway and bridge approach packages.
Underground wet and dry utilities are brought fully in-house, allowing VED to deliver mass grading and site utilities on a single schedule under a single PM.
Crews and equipment deploy regularly into Maryland, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia for industrial, healthcare, and federal program work — and our heavy civil group stands up.
Fifty years on, VED is still owner-operated, still self-performing, and still answering for every cubic yard.
A short set of values that shape how VED bids work, runs jobs, and treats the people on either side of the property line.
Ownership — if it is on our schedule, it is on us. No finger-pointing at subs, weather, or design. Our PMs and superintendents own the outcome from preconstruction through final acceptance.
Craft — build it like you will drive on it. Compaction, slope, and joint detail are the work that gets buried, and the work we judge ourselves on hardest.
Safety first — everyone goes home. A 0.68 EMR earned by daily JHAs, weekly toolbox talks, and supervisors empowered to stop work without hesitation.
Experienced professionals who bring decades of industry expertise to every project.

Stable, growing, and built to last.
Real jobs. Real ownership. No subs.
A full-time safety director and field-based safety managers — not a third-party consultant — own the program from the corporate office to the trench box.
Self-Performed Work Means Greater Control. Over schedule, over quality, and most of all over the safety of every person on the site. Our safety program is built and audited the same way our owners audit ours.
Book A ConsultationUnique, client-focused approach and proven expertise in securing high-limit funding.
Take The First StepWe sit down with the owner, GC, or design team to understand the schedule, budget, and constraints before a single quantity is taken off. The goal is alignment, not a bid number.
Every project VED undertakes is backed by the industry's most rigorous certifications — so you can award the contract with complete confidence.
